Last year, Netflix launched the Pacific Rim spin-off anime Pacific Rim: The Black. Next month, the series will officially come to an end. The second season of "Pacific Rim: The Black", which will also be the final season of the series, will be launched on the streaming live service on April 19. Officials said it will describe the "epic ending" of the story. Black follows a pair of twins in Australia who, through a variety of coincidences, end up piloting a training Jaeger (the giant robot in the movie) to fight monsters and keep Sydney safe. In an interview last year, supervising director Hiroyuki Hayashi explained that one of the goals of the series was to show the effects of a monster invasion from a different perspective. “The people in Pacific Rim: The Black are survivors who have been left behind by the magic of advanced technology,” he said. “If you put it simply, they’re described as having a level of technology that’s closer to what we have today, except for the Jaeger technology.” Season 2 will continue this story, with plots ranging from human/monster hybrids to a monster-obsessed cult. |
