New Star Trek Movie in Production, All Cast Returning for Trilogy

According to Deadline, the new "Star Trek" film is in production, and the cast of the JJ Abrams trilogy is returning, including Chris Pine (as Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (as Spock), Zoe Saldana (as Lieutenant Uhura), Karl Urban (as Bones), John Cho (as Sulu) and Simon Pegg (as Scotty).

The film is scheduled to begin shooting in late 2022 and will be directed by Matt Shakman, who has directed the Disney+ series "Wanda: Vision", FX's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and HBO's "Game of Thrones". JJ Abrams returns as producer.

The new "Star Trek" screenwriters are Josh Friedman ("Avatar 2") and Cameron Squires ("Wanda: Vision"), and the script will be adapted from the previous script written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet ("Captain Marvel").

The details of the new "Star Trek" plot have not been revealed yet, but according to the original plan, the plot of "Star Trek 4" is that Captain Kirk has to face the legacy of his father. His father heroically sacrificed himself in the battle with the time-traveling Romulans on the USS Kevin.
