Spider-Man: No Return ranked second in North American box office history on its first day

"Spider-Man: No Homecoming", a collaboration between Marvel and Sony, earned $121.5 million in North America on its first day (including advance screenings), surpassing "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"'s $119 million, ranking second in the first-day box office in North American film history, second only to "Avengers 4"'s $157 million.

After the film opened worldwide on December 15, it has accumulated a global box office of 302 million US dollars and will exceed 500 million US dollars in its first weekend worldwide.

It is worth mentioning that Spider-Man: No Homecoming achieved this result during the pandemic. It not only set the highest first-day box office record in North American film history in December, but also the highest first-day box office in the Spider-Man series. In 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming only had a box office of 117 million U.S. dollars in its first weekend, and in 2019, Spider-Man: Far From Home had a box office of 92 million U.S. dollars in its first weekend.

In terms of audience reputation, the film received an A+ CinemaScore rating, which is also the best in the series. Among all MCU movies, only "Avengers", "Avengers 4" and "Black Panther" have received an A+ rating. The animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" also received an A+.

Foreign media estimate that if "Spider-Man: No Return" can replicate the performance of "Avengers 4" and "Avengers 3" on Saturday and Sunday, it is expected to earn $242 million in its first weekend, the fourth highest in North American film history.
