After Daniel Craig gave up the role of British super spy James Bond after 15 years, a host of other stars have offered to play the role, and the latest to express this desire is Dwayne Johnson. In an interview with Esquire, Johnson discussed his unique connection to the Bond universe. It turns out that Johnson's grandfather, Peter Maiva, played a villain in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967). In the film, Maiva played a page who tried to kill Bond using wrestling and a Japanese samurai sword, but obviously failed. Johnson told foreign media: "I would like to follow in my grandfather's footsteps and become the next Bond. I don't want to be a villain, I have to be Bond." However, Johnson is not British, and British fans are very protective of this iconic image, so the possibility of Johnson being chosen is low. Johnson's next role is Black Adam, an anti-hero, scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022. Tom Hardy is reportedly the favourite to become the next Bond, with Henry Cavill and Idris Elba also considered strong contenders for the role. |
