Gyro: My Pacific Rim 2 script involves time travel

"Pacific Rim" director Guillermo del Toro, known as "Gyro", recently revealed the plot of "Pacific Rim 2" originally developed by him. In his conception, the protagonist of the sequel is Asako played by Rinko Kikuchi, not Jack played by John Boyega, and the sequel will also involve plots such as time travel and time paradox.

After the release of Pacific Rim in 2013, Gyro was already preparing for Pacific Rim 2, but the project was delayed for a long time, and Legendary Pictures was acquired, so the preparations were full of twists and turns. Gyro withdrew from the Pacific Rim 2 crew in 2018, and Steven S. DeKnight took over as director, and the script was also replaced.

Not long ago, when promoting his new film "The Jade Face Love Demon", Gyro told The Wrap that his "Pacific Rim 2" story involves time travel and time paradox.

"The villain is a tech tycoon who invented things like the Internet 2.0. People feel like the tycoon's inventions and patents were obtained overnight. It turns out that the tycoon's inventions and creations were given to him by the 'Pioneers' - the 'Pioneers' are the people who control the Kaiju. The Pioneers are humans thousands of years later who want to transform the earth and want to 'harvest' the earth again for their own survival. The protagonist will wear that kind of exoskeleton biochemical suit, looking like an alien, and there is a human under the suit. This is a very interesting paradox. ... It's really crazy. Some elements were adjusted by them and used in the final second part."

Gyro also said that Asako, played by Rinko Kikuchi, would be the protagonist of Pacific Rim 2, but died shortly after appearing in Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2018, and the protagonist was replaced by Jack, played by John Boyega. "For me, the protagonist/hero of the story is Asako, who is one of the main characters in the second part."
