Japan's first film commentary publisher was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison and a 2 million yen fine

Do you remember the first three Japanese creators arrested in June this year for publishing short videos of "movie commentary" (reported by this site)? Today, November 16, the Sendai District Court in Miyagi Prefecture issued the latest verdict, and all three creators were convicted of intellectual property infringement and will receive fixed-term imprisonment and a huge fine.

•Once upon a time, short videos of "movie commentary" that condensed a movie into a few minutes were very popular and well-received on major video sites. The reason was that they were simple and quick. People would watch the full version when they felt like it, rather than skipping it directly. There were many viewers who held this idea, but the film companies were obviously very unhappy. Currently, similar videos have disappeared from major domestic video sites.

•Today's trial is the second instance verdict, and all three creators were found guilty. The principal offender A was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for four years, and fined 2 million yen. The accomplice B was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, suspended for three years, and fined 1 million yen. The defendant C was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, suspended for three years, and fined 500,000 yen.

•It is reported that this case will provide an extremely severe warning for various copyright infringement behaviors in the future, and provide a model for the trial of similar cases in the future.
