The American Eisner Awards, known as the Oscars of the comics industry, was held in the United States on July 23. Two of the awards were won by Japanese horror cartoonist Junji Ito. This is the first time that a Japanese writer has won two awards at the same time. The Will Eisner Comic Industry Award is the most famous comics award in the United States. It was first held in 1987 and is known as the "Oscar of the comics industry." The Asian division of the Will Eisner Award judges Asian comics and comic strips translated and published in the United States. Junji Ito’s manga “Hell Star” won the “Best US Edition of International Material-Asia” award, while “Best of Best” also won the “Best Writer/Artist” award. |
