With Wonder Woman 1984 now in theaters and on HBO Max, the future of the DC film universe is becoming clearer. According to The New York Times, Warner Bros. will begin to accelerate its DC film release schedule, with up to four new movies released each year (starting in 2022), and two more "Adventure Adventure" movies debuting on HBO Max. According to DC Films President Walter Hamada, he pointed out that Batgirl and Static Electric are two superhero IPs with strong potential to become HBO Max exclusives. These films will still have some connection to DC's live-action multiverse, but switching to HBO Max can save budgets or reduce traditional narrative formats. In addition, DC Films will also develop branch projects with film creators - TV series that will be broadcast on HBO Max and will be closely connected with the movies. In order to keep all the story lines going, DC Films will introduce the concept of "multiverse" often involved in comics to the audience: different versions of the same character exist in multiple parallel worlds at the same time. For example, Warner Bros. has two upcoming works in which Batman will appear, and the role will be played by two different actors at the same time. |
