Daisetsuzan, Hokkaido. Devil, a European wolf who escaped from a circus, had five puppies with Tetsu, a Sakhalin dog, and raised them in the mountains, but Devil was attacked and killed by Gon, a man-eating bear. However, one of the puppies was saved by Sanae, a farm girl, who named him Taki and decided to raise him as a human. Taki, who has wolf blood, was unable to fit in with his surroundings and was left in the care of Kaneto and Yoshito, a father-son hunter family, but he still returned to nature. After experiencing many trials and growing up, Taki challenges Gon to a fateful showdown with his fellow wild dogs.
