Magic Knight Rayearth: Its Appeal and Evaluation

Magic Knight Rayearth is a TV anime series that aired from 1994 to 1995 and is based on the original manga by CLAMP. The series continues to be loved by many fans as a story of fantasy set in another world and the growth of young girls. Below, we will take a closer look at the appeal and reviews of Magic Knight Rayearth.

The appeal of the story

The story of Magic Knight Rayearth begins when three girls, Shidou Hikaru, Ryuzaki Kai, and Hououji Fuu, who meet by chance at Tokyo Tower, are summoned to the other world of Cephiro. Cephiro is on the verge of collapse after Princess Emerald, the "pillar" that supports the world, is kidnapped by the priest Zagato. The three girls embark on an adventure to save Cephiro as legendary magic knights.

The appeal of this story lies in the depiction of the girls' growth and friendship, as well as their adventures in another world. The three main characters start out as ordinary students, but grow stronger through their experiences in Cephiro. They also learn the importance of friendship and trust through their interactions with the residents of Cephiro and their battles with enemies. These elements deeply move the viewer.

Character Appeal

The characters of Magic Knight Rayearth are appealing due to CLAMP's unique designs and individual settings. The main character, Shidou Hikaru, has a bright and positive personality and is a leader who inspires his comrades. In particular, the designs of the Majin (machines) that the Magic Knights ride are an exquisite combination of fantasy and mechanical elements, making a great visual impact.

Music is also an important element that enhances the appeal of Magic Knight Rayearth. The opening themes "Yuzurenai Negai" (A Wish That Won't Be Left Unyielding), "Kirai ni Narenai" and "Hikari to Kage wo Dakishimete" (As I Embrace Light and Shadow) are impressive, featuring the powerful voices of Tamura Naomi and Nakamura Ayumi, and lyrics that perfectly fit the theme of the story. The ending themes "Ashita e no Courage" (Courage for Tomorrow), "La La Bye - Let Me Hold You Gentle" and "Itsuka Kagayaku" (Someday I'll Shine) also play a role in deepening the emotion of the story. Hayato Matsuo's music effectively creates the tension of the adventure and the moving scenes.
