Sister Princess - Detailed Review

Sister Princess is a 2001 anime TV series based on the video game by Amahiro Naoto and Kimino Sakurako. The anime airs every Wednesday on TV Tokyo and is a 26-episode series. It is produced by ZEXCS and directed by Ohata Kiyotaka and Inada Ikushi.

The story begins when the protagonist, Kaijyo Wataru, fails his high school entrance exam and retires to a ronin life. However, suddenly, men in black suits appear and take Wataru to an island. There, he is greeted by 12 beautiful girls. All of the girls are Wataru's younger sisters, and each has their own unique character. As Wataru lives with them, he deepens his bonds with them through various events.

The charm of this anime lies in the distinctive characters of the 12 sisters. Each has a different background and personality, and their relationships with Wataru are diverse. For example, Karen is gentle and kind, and calls Wataru "big brother," while Aria is lively and energetic, and calls him "big brother." Mamoru also has a cool and mature air about him, and calls Wataru "big brother." The way he addresses his sisters and the way he interacts with them are all different. These differences in the characters give the story depth and interest.

Sister Princess also depicts the importance of family love and bonds through the everyday life and events that the sisters share. For example, during events such as summer vacations and Christmas, Wataru is shown having fun with his sisters, giving viewers a warm feeling. Another highlight is seeing Wataru grow as he spends time with his sisters. He learns a lot from them and has the opportunity to reexamine himself. These elements make Sister Princess an even more appealing work.

The cast is also impressive, with talented voice actors such as Natsuko Kuwatani, Hisayo Mochizuki, Yumiko Kobayashi, Yui Horie, Chiemi Chiba, Suzuka Yuzuki, Kumiko Yokote, Chiro Kanzaki, Ayako Kawasumi, Yumi Kakazu, Tomoe Hanba, Nana Mizuki, and Kenji Nojima. In particular, the opening theme "Love Destiny" and the ending theme "Wings" sung by Yui Horie are important elements that liven up the atmosphere of the anime.

The main staff is also well-rounded, with professionals from various fields such as executive producer Toshimichi Otsuki, planner Tatsuo Sato, series composer Masaharu Amiya, character designer Yasunari Nitta, and composer Takayuki Hattori. The combined efforts of these staff members are what raise the quality of Sister Princess.

The subtitles for each episode are also unique, drawing the viewer's interest. For example, the first episode, "My Graduation," begins with Wataru's failure in the high school entrance exam, while the second episode, "I Love You, Big Brother!", depicts his meeting with his sisters. Additionally, the 20th episode, "Christmas Love Destiny," is a Christmas-themed episode, and the 26th episode, "The Promised Island," depicts a touching conclusion in which the bond between Wataru and his sisters deepens. These subtitles symbolize the content of each episode, building up the viewer's anticipation.
