The creator of the live-action series "The Witcher" responded to the former screenwriter: I never laughed at the original work

While promoting the new project, an X-Men animated series tentatively titled X-Men 97, writer Beau DeMayo compared it to his previous similar job on The Witcher. He said that "some writers are not fans, or have made it clear that they don't like the books and games (or even mock the original works)." He said that "you have to respect the work before you are allowed to add to its legend."

Fans of the original The Witcher books were disappointed with the Netflix series' treatment of the novels, and many new fans of the books were upset that Henry Cavill left the series in Season 3. Many of these people used these comments as ammunition to attack the series' creator Lauren Hissrich on social media. In the comments on her Instagram post of the trailer for the prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin, many called her a "trash writer" and accused her of mocking the original books.

In response to these comments, she wrote: "I have never mocked the books. Those books are my livelihood, I have a great relationship with (author) Mr. Sapkowski, and the writers' room is a sacred, safe, and most importantly, inclusive space. Don't believe everything you read."

After someone repeated Beau DeMayo's comments, Hissrich responded, "I have so much respect for Beau and the episodes he writes! 'Dracula' is one of my favorites. He wrote the episode where people come to Kaer Morhen and Eskar dies, and a lot of people didn't like that, but he was brave enough to tell the story he wanted to tell. It takes a lot of courage to do that. I respect that."

Other writers currently working on The Witcher responded to DeMayo's comments. Javier Grillo-Marxuach said that "the rumors are all false" and that "there was never any 'hate' against the books." Matt D'Ambrosio simply stated that these were "random lies by the show's former writers."
