The collective name given to them by an ancient poet is "Disciples of the Crimson World." Calling themselves the "Swirling Cathedral," or what the poet calls the "Crimson Realm" - a land adjacent to this world where no one can walk - these "Disciples" have come from. They manifest themselves by stealing the fundamental power that allows humans to exist in this world, the "Power of Existence," and create impossible wonders. As they please, as long as their power allows, until the time of their destruction. It turns out that there were no humans whose "power of existence" was consumed by them. The world was devoid of everything that should have grown, connected, and expanded, and now it is distorted. As the Denizens rampaged freely, this distortion grew exponentially. Eventually, some among the powerful Adepts, the "Kings of the Crimson Realm," began to fear that this great distortion would eventually bring about a great disaster both to this world and the "Crimson Realm." Some of the Crimson Kings then made the difficult decision to hunt down their brethren. Their vanguard, or weapons, were humans who swore and desired revenge on the Denizens - humans who offered their entire existence as the vessel of the King and gained supernatural powers - the Slayers "Flame Hazes."
On that day, a boy who had lost everything due to the Denizens who had invaded his daily life and was informed that he was a temporary existence called a Torch met a girl known as "Nietono Shana's Flame Haze."
This is the story of "Mystes" Sakai Yūji and the "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Hunter" Shana. ■Explanation Yuuji, I will protect you.
One day, the daily life of ordinary high school student Yuuji Sakai suddenly vanished. Yuuji was attacked by the "Crimson Denizens", monsters that came from another world and turn people's "existence" into light and devour them. Yuuji, who stood there in shock, was saved by a mysterious girl with crimson hair and eyes. And then──the girl told Yuuji, "You no longer [exist]."

Long ago, a human poet described the scenery of this different world that he had heard about from a Disciple like this. ・Disciples of the Crimson World A general term for the inhabitants of the other world, the Crimson Realm. They are sometimes shortened to "Adults." Like the Crimson Realm, they were named by a poet. They came from the Crimson Realm, devoured humans, and wreaked havoc on this world. ・King of the Crimson Realm Among the Denizens, he is an entity with particularly strong power. He is sometimes shortened to "King". Due to the size of his existence, he requires a great deal of "Power of Existence" to continue to manifest in this world. ・The power of existence A fundamental energy necessary for existence in this world. The Addicts manifest themselves by stealing this power from those closest to them: humans. ・Jizaihou (Free-hand technique) A general term for the techniques used by the "Crimson Denizens" and Flame Hazes to "freely" manipulate the "Power of Existence" to cause various phenomena. ・Free-standing type A pattern that unfolds to activate the Unlimited Spell. Though they can gather the Power of Existence, they cannot add it to themselves, and cannot maintain their existence without a supply of power from their master. ・Torch A substitute (Daitaibutsu) made from the embers of a human who died after having had the "Power of Existence" consumed. If the disappearance of an existence were to suddenly cause a large distortion in the world, it would be detected by the Flame Hazes, so the Adepts create this to maintain their connection with people and the world for the time being, and to soften the impact that the loss of existence would have on the world. Adepts and Flame Hazes can see a light burning in their chests, which is the embodiment of the remaining "Power of Existence". Because it is made from the remains of the person, it retains the memories and personality of the person before death, and life functions are also performed. As the remaining power is consumed, it gradually loses its relationships with those around it, its place, its role, and its presence, and eventually, when no one notices it, it quietly disappears. With its disappearance, all traces disappear, and it is as if it never existed. Torches that house within themselves the treasure of the "Crimson Denizens", the "Noble Phantasm", are called "Mystes"? ・Mystes A torch that houses a Noble Phantasm within itself. It is also called a causally isolated space. When the closure is performed, a wall of heat haze surrounds the area, and a crest consisting of a strange string of letters is drawn on the ground with fire lines. It is a form of Jizaiho devised in the early modern period by the genius Jizai master "Spiral Organ". It is deployed so that the "Crimson World Denizens" can hide when consuming the "Power of Existence", and so that Flame Hazes can use it as a battlefield against the "Dens". Everything in this world that is imprisoned inside the closure stops, but it has no effect on the "Dens" or Flame Hazes. ・Distortion of the World A distortion has occurred throughout the world, including this world and the Crimson Realm, caused by the Crimson Denizens over-harvesting the Power of Existence. If it continues to expand like this, it is said that a Great Calamity will occur. ・Flame Haze A general term for supernatural beings who fight against the "Crimson Denizens" who are upsetting the balance of this world. They are born by making a contract with the "King of the Crimson Realm," who has decided to fight against his brethren in order to prevent the spread of the "distortion of the world." He only expresses his consciousness through "Cocytus", a pendant-shaped sacred artifact designed with a gold ring on a black jewel. ・Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Hunter The title of a Flame Haze who made a contract with "The Flames of Heaven" Alastor. Currently Shana. ・Yogasa A coat-type black garment that can be transformed freely. It is a manifestation of a part of Alastor's wing, and protects Shana from enemy attacks. This work is based on the premise that beings called "Crimson Denizens" from another world, the "Crimson Realm," manifest in this world by stealing the "power of existence" of humans, causing distortions in the world. In the midst of this, the story unfolds as supernatural beings called Flame Hazes fight the "Crimson Denizens" to protect the balance of the world. One day, the main character, Sakai Yuji, is suddenly attacked by the "Crimson of the Crimson" and is informed that he is an entity called the "Torch." A torch is an alternative made from the embers of humans who have been eaten by the "power of being" and died, and Yuji is portrayed as a special "mystes." The story centers around the encounter with Shana, a girl from Flame Haze who appears before him. Shana is called the "Flame Hair and Burning Eyes" and is a powerful warrior who has made a contract with Alastor, the demon of the Crimson of the Crimson of the Crimson. Her mission is to destroy the "Crimson of the Crimson" and prevent the world from being warped, but her encounter with Yuji changes her heart. The appeal of this work lies in the exquisite balance between the epic fantasy world and the human drama. The relationship between Shana and Yuji is deepened by depicting the modest moments of everyday life, in contrast to the tension in the battle scenes. In particular, the scene where Shana eats melon bread and her interactions with Yuji's mother, Chigusa, gives viewers a sense of familiarity. In addition, Shana's "noisy, slouchy," symbolizes her tsundere personality, and is extremely popular among fans. The characters are rich in personality, and many other attractive characters appear other than Shana. The duo of Marjorie Doe and Marcosias not only performs in battle scenes, but also shows humorous exchanges. The calm fighting style of Wilhelmina Carmel and Tiamato, as well as the heavy presence of Kamshin and Behemot are impressive. In addition, the three troops of the enemy's "Fancy Dress Ball" Belpeor, Shudnai and Hekate each have different charms, giving the story a deeper look. JCSTAFF, who was in charge of animation production, carefully depicts the power of the battle scenes and the fineness of the characters' facial expressions. In particular, Shana's fire-haired, burning eyes visuals are very beautiful and give a visual impact. The music is also an important element in creating the atmosphere of the work, and the theme songs, such as Kawada Mami's "Scarlet Sky" and KOTOKO's "Being" are also very impressive. "Shakugan no Shana" is a highly complete work that combines fantasy and human drama, charming characters, beautiful visuals and music. We highly recommend it to those who like fantasy in otherworldly worlds, or those who are interested in character growth and relationships. Watching the entire series also offers fun tracing the growth of Shana and Yuji and how the world will become. By watching the sequels "Shakugan no Shana II" and "Shakugan no Shana III -FINAL-" together, you will be able to enjoy this world even more deeply. Furthermore, Shakugan no Shana is a light novel and comic adaptation of the original, so you can enjoy it from a wide range of perspectives. In particular, the original novel contains many detailed settings and episodes that are not depicted in the anime, making it a must-read for fans. Also, related works include spin-off works that are more casual, such as Shakugan no Shana-tan and "Why Shana! Any Question Box!", which appeals to a wide range of people. Overall, Shakugan no Shana is a masterpiece of fantasy anime, and its charm still attracts many fans. This story, which combines the battles of another world and the warmth of everyday life, is touching and exciting to the viewers, making it a work that will make you want to watch over and over again. Be sure to try it out and about Shana's world. |
