Tomoo Kinoshita is a fourth-grader who lives with his mother, who works part-time, and his elder sister, who is a junior high school student, in Building 29 of a mammoth housing complex. His beloved father is currently working away from home.
He comes from a middle-class family and is fairly popular in class. He's not good at sports or studying, but he's passionate about the things he enjoys and lives his life to the fullest.
The story is full of humor as it depicts the everyday antics of the laid-back Tomoo, along with his eccentric classmates and the quirky residents of his apartment complex.
