Main Characters

The details of the main characters are as follows:

  • Mari Tamaki
A second-year high school girl who attends Tatara High School. Her real name is Tamaki Mari, but her friends call her "Kimari." She is curious and interested in many things, but her laid-back and timid nature keeps her from doing anything. She loves egg dishes, especially pudding. She is impressed by Shirase's Antarctic project and joins her.
  • Kobuchizawa Shirase
A second-year high school student who attends the same high school as Kimari. She is the daughter of Takako Kobuchizawa, a member of the Antarctic survey team, and has dreamed of going to Antarctica ever since her mother went missing in middle school. Although she is an eye-catching beauty who has been scouted in the past, she is shy and quiet. Having been mocked for going to Antarctica, she tends to think of everyone around her as her enemy. On the other hand, she is clumsy, and the more she talks, the more disappointing her side becomes. She loves animals, especially penguins.
  • Hinata Miyake
A girl who works part-time at a convenience store near the high school that Kimari and her friends attend. She is the same age as Kimari and her friends, but dropped out of high school and is now working part-time to prepare for the university entrance exams. She has a bright personality and is friendly. She can read the mood of the room, and is considerate, telling jokes and not minding being teased. She has a habit of making up and saying famous quotes on the spot whenever the opportunity arises, which sometimes impresses people and sometimes leaves them dumbfounded.
  • Yuzuki Shiraishi
A beautiful girl who works as a TV personality and lives in Hokkaido. She meets Kimari and the others through a job that takes her to Antarctica, and they decide to travel together. She is a high school freshman, one year younger than Kimari and the others, but because she has been working since she was young, she behaves more maturely, is particular, and is more calm and cool-headed than girls her age. She has never had a friend since she was a child, and she desperately wants to make a best friend.
  • Toudou Gin
Captain of the private Antarctic observation team, "Antarctic Challenge." He has known Takako, Shirase's mother, since high school, and became a member of the expedition after she invited him to go to Antarctica. He was with the expedition team three years ago when Takako went missing, and he feels responsible for her disappearance. He is a reliable captain with leadership skills, but he is often mistaken for someone else because he is quiet and not very good at expressing himself.
  • Kanae Maekawa
A woman who serves as the vice captain of the Antarctic Challenge under Gin. She met Takako and Gin on the Antarctic observation team. Before that, she worked in sales at a company, and was quick-witted, talkative, and very popular with men. She handles all negotiations on behalf of Gin, who doesn't talk much, and there are rumors that she is the secret captain behind the scenes.
  • Yumiko Samejima
She is the head chef of the expedition and is known as the Antarctic chef. Although she is originally from Okinawa, she is strong in the cold, and is a bold and tomboyish girl. She is a good mentor to Kimari and the others, teaching them various things and talking to them, and is a good older sister.
  • Megumi Takahashi
Kimari's childhood friend and best friend since kindergarten. She is blunt and not good at girly things. She has a tendency to look at things with a somewhat cold eye, and is unable to get excited or passionate about anything. She feels secretly envious when she sees Kimari, who has also done nothing, getting excited about going to Antarctica.
  • Tamaki Rin
Kimari's younger sister. Compared to her older sister who is a bit absent-minded, she is a reliable and caring person. She is a good sister who also serves as a class representative at school. Although she worries about her older sister who is going to Antarctica, she supports her from the bottom of her heart.
  • Tamiko Shiraishi
Yuzuki's mother. She is also Yuzuki's manager and manages her work. She is a so-called stage mom who has been working hard to make Yuzuki a celebrity since she was born, and she is dedicated to making Yuzuki famous.
  • Chiaki Mukai
Captain of the observation ship. Previously, he served as the captain of an observation team in the Self-Defense Forces, but when a private observation ship was to be sent out, he was asked by Gin to take up the position of captain. When he was young, he was known for being strict, but as he got older, his personality became more mellow, and he has gained everyone's trust as a captain who can make calm decisions.
  • Toshio Zaizen
He is in charge of communications for the observation team and is also knowledgeable about computer mechanics. However, he has little experience with women and is an overly romantic person. He treats women he is not interested in roughly, so the female members of the team see him as a small man. However, once he falls in love with a woman, he is extremely passionate about her.
  • Himi University
He is in charge of the construction team of the observation team. He is a big man and extremely quiet. He gets along well with Toshio and they see each other as a good pair. He has always been a big fan of Yuzuki and is secretly happy to be on the observation team with her, but he never tries to talk to her.
  • Todoroki Nobue
A geologist accompanying the research team. Although she is serious about her research, she is constantly thinking about her boyfriend, Yuu-kun, whom she left behind in Japan. Her free time in Antarctica is always spent writing e-mails to Yuu-kun and knitting.
  • Yume Sasaki
An astronomer who accompanies the observation team. She is also a junior colleague of Takako's and is respected by her. Although she is quiet and doesn't change her expression much, she is kind-hearted and will give advice to Kimari and the others when needed. Whenever something happens, she looks up at the sky.
  • Honami Yasumoto
She is in charge of microbiology research and accompanies the observation team. She is still a novice who has not yet received her doctorate and is attending graduate school. She is cute and popular with men, but she has no interest in romance. She is young at heart and often hangs out with Kimari and the others.
  • Takako Kobuchizawa
Shirase's mother. Shirase's personality is the polar opposite; expressive, friendly, and active, she's a cheerful woman who goes anywhere and makes friends with anyone. Since high school, she has been aiming for the Antarctic with Gin and joined the Antarctic Research Expedition, but she went missing three years ago.
