"The Conjuring 3" IGN 6 points: The core suspense is good but it doesn't have the characteristics of the Conjuring

"The Conjuring 3", produced by James Wan (not the director), will be released in North America on June 4. IGN gave it a score of 6 today (June 2). IGN said that the film is okay. "The Conjuring 3" is a hodgepodge. It does not balance the interesting core suspense of the film and the things that fans expect from the "Conjuring" sequel.

IGN rating: 6 points OK

"The Conjuring 3" is a hodgepodge that fails to balance the interesting core suspense with the things fans have come to expect from a "Conjuring" sequel.

IGN's overall review:

While The Conjuring 3 is a smart tweak to the Conjuring franchise, it doesn't succeed as a great standalone horror film in its own right. The Warrens' mysterious events may be a very engaging mystery, but the horror aspect of the film doesn't shine as much because half of the plot focuses on a possessed victim who isn't rooted for. Still, The Conjuring 3 does its best work in how it opens up the series to new types of stories to be told in the future, adding to the storytelling to come.
