Japanese woman arrested for threatening to set fire to Attack on Titan studio

A 25-year-old woman in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan was arrested by police for sending an email threatening to set fire to Wit Studio, where the "Attack on Titan" animation was produced.

The suspect was arrested earlier this week, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun. Kyodo News reported that the woman sent an email on May 7 saying: "One week from now, I will set fire to your headquarters."

After being arrested, the suspect confessed in a sworn written statement: "It is true that I sent this email." According to the suspect's confession, she has been sending various harassing emails and faxes since 2018.

Wit Studio issued a statement to introduce the situation, saying that the studio has never had direct or indirect contact with the suspect, and has only contacted legal counsel since 2018. Wit Studio also stated that the suspect tried to communicate more and more frequently, and finally issued this arson threat.

Wit Studio wrote: "With no other choice, we contacted the police." They said the studio welcomes audience feedback, whether positive or negative, and will accept it sincerely. However, Wit Studio will treat threats and defamation with caution, and will immediately call the police and use legal weapons if such a situation occurs.

After the Kyoto Animation arson attack, Japanese animation studios will certainly take arson threats more seriously.
