The movie "Mortal Kombat" was rated R for blood, violence and swearing

Exhibitor Relations Company, an analysis firm that provides critical information and intelligence to the entertainment industry, reports that the upcoming "Mortal Kombat" movie has been rated R.

The R rating is due to the intense bloody violence, profanity, and some crude references in the film, which is not surprising for a Mortal Kombat film, though it is worth noting that both 1995's Mortal Kombat and 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation were rated PG-13.

The "Mortal Kombat" movie will be released in European and American theaters on April 16, and will be simultaneously available on the streaming media HBO Max.
