Superman movie reboot to feature black protagonist

According to foreign media reports, the prolific novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates is working with JJ.Abrams to restart the Superman movie. Unlike the past, this time the Superman will be a black man.

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a star writer whose books include We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy, The Beautiful Struggle, The Water Dancer and Between the World and Me (the latter of which was adapted by HBO), and in the comic book realm, he produced Captain America and Black Panther.

"It's an honor to be invited by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams' company) to join the DC Extended Universe, and I look forward to making a meaningful addition to the legacy of one of America's most iconic mythical heroes," said Coates.

JJ. Abrams said: "There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story that has yet to be told. We can't wait to work with the talented Mr. Coates to help bring this story to the big screen. We are very grateful to the Warner Bros. team for this opportunity."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael B. Jordan tried to develop a black Superman movie in 2019, but the project did not make much progress at that time. Therefore, the black Superman movie produced by JJ. Abrams may bring back Michael B. Jordan to star.
