The pseudo-documentary Cloverfield may be getting a sequel

According to The Hollywood Reporter, JJ Abrams' Bad Robot will work with Joe Barton, the screenwriter of "Real Humans," to write a direct sequel to "Cloverfield." The earlier released "10 Cloverfield Lane" and "Cloverfield Paradox" are both spin-offs from the same universe, not direct sequels.

"Cloverfield" released in 2008 was produced by JJ Abrams. It tells the story of a mysterious attack on New York City without any warning. In an instant, the sky collapsed and the head of the Statue of Liberty fell to the street. Several young people recorded it with DVs...

The film grossed $172 million worldwide with a cost of $25 million, which not only demonstrated JJ's strength as a producer, but also made director Matt Reeves stand out. He later directed "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", "War for the Planet of the Apes" and "The Batman" which will be released in 2022.

It is reported that this direct sequel will no longer adopt the pseudo-documentary mode, and screenwriter Joe Barton will serve as the operator of the "Gotham Police Department" series for HBO Max in addition to the "Real Humans" and "Duty/Shame" series. This series belongs to the same universe as Matt Reeves' "Batman".
