Black actress from Harry Potter stage play joins new version of The Little Mermaid movie

According to foreign media Deadline, Norma Dumezweni, the black actress from the Harry Potter stage play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", has joined Disney's live-action movie "The Little Mermaid". The role she will play has not yet been revealed, but it is known that it is a new character that does not exist in the animated version.

"The Little Mermaid" is adapted from Disney's classic animation of the same name. Black female singer Halle Bailey plays the mermaid Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King (2017 drama version of "Little Women") plays Prince Eric, Javier Bardem ("Pirates of the Caribbean 5") plays Ariel's father King Triton, Melissa McCarthy ("Spy") plays the villain Ursula, Jacob Tremblay ("Wonder Boy" and "Room") and Awkwafina ("Crazy Rich Asians" and "Ocean's 8") play Ariel's friends Flounder and Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs ("Hamilton" and "Wonder Boy") plays the red crab Sebastian.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Into the Woods), written by Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, X-Men: First Class), Lin-Manuel Miranda and legendary Disney composer Alan Menken will create new songs.
