Gearbox Software's live-action Borderlands movie is about to be released, but the company has already started planning a sequel. In addition, the company's CEO also revealed that Borderlands 4 will be announced soon. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford talked about the studio's ambitions. Although the flagship series of looter-shooter games has only just begun to venture into the film field, Pitchford confidently stated that Gearbox will be able to announce the second Borderlands movie soon. He even revealed that it may be announced "before the end of the year, or even earlier." Pitchford added: "I have the biggest, best team ever, and we're doing exactly what the fans want, so I'm very, very excited. I can't wait to talk about it! I wish I could gush about it right now because we have so much to talk about!" All of this is happening ahead of the Borderlands movie, which is set to hit theaters in early August and features a stellar cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Jack Black as Crank, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Lola, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina. While the movie trailer shows that the live-action version adapts some familiar Borderlands elements, it also seems to tell a story that fits in well with the game series. How the sequel will progress the story is unclear at this point, but there's at least a lot of Borderlands lore to draw from. We'll hopefully learn more about what Gearbox has in store in the near future. In the same interview, Pitchford also revealed another Borderlands game, and hinted that this game might be announced soon as well : "I'm confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with our next game when we're ready to announce it. And I can tell you that we're not going to keep people waiting very long to announce it." The Borderlands movie will be released on August 9. Gearbox now belongs to the same parent company, Take Two, as Rockstar, the developer of GTA6. |
