Alien series producer David Giler dies in Bangkok at 77

Today (December 22), according to foreign media Deadline, David Giler, producer of the Hollywood film "Alien" series and co-screenwriter of "Alien 2" and "Alien 3", died of cancer at his home in Bangkok on December 19 at the age of 77.

Ridley Scott is known as the "Father of Alien", and Alien is a classic IP created by him. At that time, Brandywine Productions under 20th Century Fox took a fancy to the script of Alien. It was the producers Walter Hill, David Giler and Gordon Carroll who found British director Ridley Scott, who had just made his debut feature film The Duellists, that eventually gave birth to the widely influential Alien. The first Alien cost $11 million and the global box office exceeded $100 million.

Later, after reading James Cameron's Terminator script, Walter Hill and David Giler thought Cameron was very talented, so they asked him if he was interested in making Alien 2. In the end, Alien 2 was made in 1986 with an investment of 18.5 million US dollars and earned 130 million US dollars worldwide. It also achieved great commercial and word-of-mouth success.
