Jamie Lee Curtis Can't Play Doctor Kureha in the Live-Action One Piece

Jamie Lee Curtis will not be starring in the second season of Netflix's live-action version of "One Piece", as the highly anticipated series continues.

In a recent interview, Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements confirmed that Curtis would not be playing Dr. Kuleha in Season 2, despite previous interactions between Curtis and the crew on social media seemingly confirming her inclusion.

Clements said: "She loves the show, but she couldn't participate in the filming due to scheduling issues. Ms. Curtis really wanted to be in it, but she had signed other movies and TV series, which complicated the schedule."

Curtis has been open about being a One Piece fan, and during a Q&A at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, she surprised the audience by saying that if she could play any TV character, she would want to be the Straw Hat Pirates' archaeologist Nico Robin. This was years before the live-action One Piece premiered on Netflix.

Later, Curtis also said that her favorite character is Chopper. If she played Dr. Kureha, Chopper would have appeared in the second season. Considering that the crew creator Matt Owens previously stated in an interview that they "are writing (this role) for her", many "One Piece" fans are particularly disappointed that Curtis cannot play it.

However, Clements did confirm that the crew had "found a great actress" to play Dr. Kuleha.
