Sony intends to acquire American animation streaming company for more than $950 million

It was previously reported that WarnerMedia intends to sell its animation streaming service Crunchyroll to Sony for at least $1 billion as part of its parent company AT&T's efforts to reduce some of its debt. But Sony was "hesitant" about the price because it was beyond their budget, and now there is the latest progress in the acquisition.

According to the latest report from Japanese media today (October 30), Sony has entered into final negotiations to acquire Crunchyroll, an anime streaming service provider under AT&T. The report said that the acquisition price may exceed US$950 million.

Crunchyroll claims to have the world's largest anime inventory, with more than 1,000 titles and more than 30,000 episodes. The 14-year-old streaming service announced that its subscribers exceeded 3 million on July 28, 2020, up from 2 million at the end of 2018. It is known for broadcasting popular anime such as "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure", "Haikyuu!!", and "God of High School" (Crunchyroll mainly provides services to users in the United States).
