Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Director apologizes for missing Marvel's Phase 4 and gives explanation

At last week's SDCC, Marvel announced the launch schedule of ten films and TV series in the fourth phase. Unfortunately, the long-awaited "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" was not on the list. James Gunn, the director of "Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2", apologized and gave the reason for his absence.

"Sorry to disappoint everyone, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is indeed in the works, but I have to finish The Suicide Squad first," Gunn said on Twitter. Gunn's reboot of The Suicide Squad is set to begin filming later this year and is currently scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021.

According to Marvel, the last movie to be released in Phase 4 is "Thor 4", which is scheduled to be released on November 5, 2020, so "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" should be released in 2022 at the earliest.

It is worth mentioning that Marvel has previously announced the release dates of the three films after the fourth phase, which are February 18, May 6 and July 29, 2022. Although Marvel did not disclose the names of these three films, perhaps one of these schedules belongs to "Guardians of the Galaxy 3".
