The Meg starring Jason Statham and Li Bingbing is getting a sequel! British director Ben Wheatley is expected to direct the sequel. His new version of Rebecca has just been released on Netflix. According to foreign media reports, Statham is also expected to return to star in the sequel. In 2018, Warner Bros.' The Meg (distributed in China by Chinese Films) was directed by Joe DeTurduba. With a budget of about $130-178 million, it earned more than $530 million in box office worldwide, including 1 billion yuan (nearly $150 million) in mainland China. The film revolves around an international scientific research project led by China, in which scientists were attacked by unknown creatures in the depths of the Mariana Trench. Jonas Taylor (Statham), a former US Marine Corps deep-sea diving expert, was ordered to rescue and once again encountered the prehistoric Megalodon, which had left him with an indelible memory several years ago. Jonas teamed up with Chinese female scientist Zhang Suyin (Li Bingbing) in the scientific research project to successfully rescue the trapped people, but the rescue operation accidentally caused the Megalodon to escape from the deep sea. The film was nominated for the "Worst Remake/Plagiarism/Sequel" at the Golden Raspberry Awards that year. Ben Wheatley's previous works "Kill List" and "Tourists" are dark, adventurous and creative. His works in recent years are slowly moving towards the mainstream. Next, Wheatley will also direct "Tomb Raider 2" starring "Cam Girl" Alicia Vikander. |
