According to the US media Forbes, a scientific survey initiated by BroadbandChoices believes that "Sinister" starring Ethan Hawke in 2012 is the scariest movie ever. With more people than ever staying home for Halloween due to the coronavirus pandemic, BroadbandChoices' "Science of Scare" study was designed to help people find the most scientifically terrifying movies, saving them time searching through the thousands of titles available on streaming services like Amazon, Netflix, Shudder, and more. The study measured the resting heart rates of 50 people of different ages after watching more than 100 hours of horror movies, and determined the 35 scariest horror movies, with Sinister at the top of the list. The study said the average resting heart rate of the 50 people was 65 beats per minute, but when watching "Sinister," the average heart rate rose to 86, a 32% increase. No other movie had a higher average heart rate than this. However, James Wan's Insidious in 2010 was crowned the "king of jump scares" because it had a particular jump scare that had an average heart rate of 133, the highest of all horror movies. In general, Insidious ranked second after Sinister. Top 10: 1. Sinister 2. Insidious 3. The Conjuring 4. Hereditary 5. Paranormal Activity 6. It's Behind Me 7. The Conjuring 2 8. The Babadook 9.
