Following Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr. and Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson, the "Spider-Man 3" movie starring Tom Holland will usher in a new mentor: Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Sorcerer Supreme will join the next Spider-Man movie starring Holland as a mentor. Doctor Strange and Spider-Man had interacted in Avengers 3 before, and there was still some comedic chemistry between the two. Jamie Foxx recently confirmed that he will return to Spider-Man 3 as the villain Electro. Previously, Foxx played Electro in the 2014 Garfield version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of course, in Spider-Man 3, his appearance will be different from the previous The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and he will no longer be blue. Could it be that Doctor Strange will help connect the two movie universes? Electro's return has sparked speculation that Marvel could be creating a "Spider-Man" storyline where multiple Spider-Man universes collide and intersect. We can recall the scenes in the animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse where different Spider-Men came together, and Doctor Strange's ability to travel through the multiverse could come in very handy. Spider-Man 3 is directed by John Watts, who also directed the two Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). He also directed Joker (2014) and Cop Car. Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 are scheduled to start filming this year. |
