Former Activision Blizzard Chief Marketing Officer Daniel Cherry appointed as DC Senior Vice President & General Manager

As DC and parent company Warner Media lay off 800 employees, the company has some new problems. Currently, Daniel Cherry, former chief marketing officer of Activision Blizzard, has joined DC Comics as senior vice president and general manager.

According to foreign media The Hollywood Reporter, Daniel Cherry will take up his post on September 8, and his responsibilities will include overseeing "business editorial, talent services, marketing, sales, branding, and direct-to-consumer engagement with DC." Cherry will report directly to Pamela Lifford, director of global brand and experience at WarnerMedia, and will work closely with Anne DePies, senior vice president of business strategy, finance and administration.

The general manager is a new position in DC's leadership, and DC is currently promoting Daniel Cherry's experience in the e-sports field at Activision, which indicates that the company is looking for ways to expand consumers beyond traditional forms and target new and untapped comic markets. The report also pointed out that this new position is to allow publisher/chief creative officer Jim Lee to focus on building the broader DC brand. It is unclear whether Jim Lee will continue to hold these positions or take on a new position at DC.

Previously, Warner Media had laid off 800 employees. Nearly one-third of the DC Comics editorial department was unemployed, most of the DC streaming platform "DC Universe" operation team that created "Doom Patrol" was laid off, and DC Direct/DC Collectibles, a peripheral toy brand operated by DC for 22 years, was officially closed.

At present, the future direction of DC Comics remains uncertain. IGN stated that DC may undergo several changes in 2021, including reducing the number of comics per month and focusing more on digital distribution.
