It tells the story of a world plagued by plague, the struggle between good and evil, countless deaths, and the fate of mankind resting on the fragile shoulders of 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a small group of survivors. Their biggest nightmare is the superpowered cowboy with a deadly smile, the "Dark Man" - Randall Flagg.
King will write the final episode of the series, providing new follow-ups not found in the book. Cavell said the show is about some fundamental questions: What does society owe to individuals, and what do we owe to each other?
