"Fantastic Beasts 3" has the lowest opening box office in the series in North America, and "The Blink of an Eye" creates a miracle for low-budget movies

The fantasy adventure film "Fantastic Beasts: And the Mystery of Dumbledore" (hereinafter referred to as "Fantastic Beasts 3") was released in North America on April 15 and earned $43 million at the opening box office. Although it won the weekend championship, it set the lowest opening record in the series.

The first two films in the series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, earned $74.4 million and $62.2 million respectively. Although the performance of Fantastic Beasts 3 is related to the epidemic, it is mainly affected by word of mouth. The film has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of only 48% and a CinemaScore rating of B+. 11 years ago, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 earned $43 million in box office revenue from midnight screenings alone.

For the distributor Warner, "Fantastic Beasts 3" is already the second-best opening performance in the epidemic era, second only to the $135 million opening of "The Batman" released in early March this year, and higher than the $41 million opening of "Dune" which was broadcast simultaneously in theaters and streaming media in October last year. The industry expects that the North American box office of "Fantastic Beasts 3" will eventually exceed 100 million.

Outside of North America, Fantastic Beasts 3 grossed $150.4 million. Except for Mexico, most markets performed worse than the previous film. The Chinese mainland market grossed $14.7 million, ranking fourth. The film grossed $193.4 million worldwide and is expected to eventually exceed $400 million. The film's investment was as high as $200 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which has been confirmed to be introduced to the Chinese mainland, earned $30 million in its second week, ranking second. It has a cumulative North American revenue of $119 million and a global total of $231 million. It will not be a problem to catch up with the first film, which earned $148 million in North America and $319 million worldwide.

The comedy adventure film "The Lost City" earned $6.5 million in its fourth weekend of release, ranking third, with a total of $78.57 million in North America and $88.27 million worldwide.

The sci-fi comedy "The Blink of an Eye" starring Michelle Yeoh earned another $6.16 million last weekend, ranking fourth. It has accumulated $17.7 million in 24 days and is expected to exceed $30 million in the end. In the era of the epidemic, it is quite valuable for a low-budget movie to have such a performance. The film's Rotten Tomatoes freshness remains at 97%, and the MTC comprehensive score is 82.

The new film "Stu", starring Mark Wahlberg, ranked fifth with 5.7 million US dollars, and the cumulative North American revenue was 8 million US dollars including the preview.
