Tianxia Bachang's "Ghost Blows Out the Light" copyright case ruled that Qingdao Publishing House infringed

Recently, lawyer Wang Yun revealed the result of the second trial of a copyright case of "Ghost Blowing Out the Light" on Weibo: the court finally determined that the "latest revised version" of "Ghost Blowing Out the Light" published by Qingdao Publishing House violated the right of modification and constituted false advertising. The publishing house should apologize and compensate Tianxia Bachang for mental damages and reasonable expenses of more than 53,000 yuan.

In 2015, after Tianxia Bachang announced on Weibo that he would revise "Ghost Blows Out the Light", Qingdao Publishing House arbitrarily modified the content of the novel and took the opportunity to promote the "latest revised version" of "Ghost Blows Out the Light" as being about to be released, so it was sued by the author.

According to the information provided by lawyer Wang Yun, the key point of this case is that even if the editor of the publishing house believes that there are textual errors in the work, he should obtain the author's consent to modify it. After the author transfers the property rights of the copyright, he may still obtain economic benefits from the use of the work, such as filing a lawsuit for unfair competition due to the creation of fan works.
