Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 May Explore Rocket Raccoon's Tragic Past

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 May Explore Rocket Raccoon's Tragic Past

James Gunn, director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" series of films, recently revealed some details about the "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" movie on Twitter.

When asked by a fan if Rocket's origins will be part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn responded: "I would say Rocket is a big part of the story going forward, and a lot of this stuff (like the scar on his back that we're about to see) is something I've been planning for Rocket for a long time."

James Gunn has stated that Rocket is his favorite Guardians of the Galaxy member. When asked what's on Rocket's back when he's wearing the jet suit, Gunn responded, "It's a piece of cybernetic machinery that has apparently been painfully implanted into his body. It's one of my favorite moments in the movie. For me, Rocket's loneliness and discontent are at the heart of the series."

Gunn went on to further reference Rocket's past, describing the trilogy as "a group of outsiders who have all experienced childhood trauma - except for Drax, who is the only one who has a completely positive relationship with the people who raised him."

It remains to be seen whether we'll actually see into Rocket's past -- and the painful experiments he once underwent -- or just get new information or revelations in the story.

James Gunn is still producing "The Suicide Squad", which is scheduled to be released in 2021, and then filming "Guardians of the Galaxy 3".
