On the 21st, 507 cinemas across the country resumed work and "Wolf Warrior 2" and "The Wandering Earth" were re-screened

In the past two weeks, all walks of life across the country have resumed work. At this time, almost everyone is looking forward to returning to normal life. Eating, drinking and having fun have been suppressed for too long. According to Maoyan data, on March 21, a total of 507 cinemas in China resumed work, with a box office of 31,000 yuan.

Due to the need for prevention and control, major cinemas were closed one after another before the Spring Festival. Maoyan Cinema also announced on January 24 that it would stop counting box office revenue. Almost two months have passed since then, and domestic cinemas and the film industry have suffered huge losses. The box office revenue lost during the Spring Festival prime time is at least 5 billion yuan.

Starting from March 20, domestic cinemas gradually resumed operations. As of March 21, 507 cinemas had resumed operations, with a resumption rate of 4.47%. The box office on that day was 31,000 yuan.

Judging from the films released, the recent period is still dominated by movies that have been screened before, such as "Wolf Warrior 2", "The Wandering Earth", "Wolf Totem", etc. In terms of box office, the box office of each movie screening is almost negligible. The highest contribution of Xinjiang per screening is less than 100 yuan, which should be purely charitable.

The situation is not optimistic not only for China but also for the global film industry this year. Blockbusters such as "Fast & Furious 9", "Mulan", "The New Mutants", "No Time to Die", "A Quiet Place 2" and "Peter Rabbit: Runaway Plan" have chosen to withdraw from the schedule and postpone their release for several months or even a year.

Due to the impact of this epidemic, global box office losses are expected to exceed 10 billion US dollars.

In 2019, the North American box office exceeded 10 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 1/4 of the global box office. Disney, which accounts for 40% of the U.S. box office, is likely to be greatly affected this year.
