The box office charts for May 2024 are out: Thelma & Louisa wins

According to the data from Lighthouse Professional Edition, as of 21:00 on May 31, the box office in May 2024 reached 2.944 billion.

The top three box office hits in May are:

1. Thelma & Louise: 725 million

"The Last Thing Called Spending" is directed and written by Wu Rina, starring Jia Bing, Tan Zhuo, Xiao Shenyang, Yu Yang and Dong Baozhi.

The film tells the story of the protagonist Jia Youwei, a middle-aged man who has accomplished nothing. He is diagnosed with a brain tumor and is given only ten days to live. So he sells his old house that is rumored to be demolished, finds his childhood friends from the housing estate, and decides to enjoy himself to the fullest in the last ten days of his life, which triggers a series of hilarious stories.

2. "The Siege of Kowloon Walled City" 558 million

"The Besieged City of Kowloon" is directed by Soi Cheang and stars Louis Koo, Sammo Hung, Richie Jen and others. It vividly recreates the chaotic Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong in the 1980s, a place known as the "no man's land".

3. "Peacekeepers Riot Squad" 508 million

"Peacekeeping Riot Squad" is produced by Liu Weiqiang, directed by Li Dachao, and starred by Huang Jingyu, Wang Yibo, Zhong Chuxi, with special appearances by Ou Hao and Zhu Yawen. It tells the story of the Chinese peacekeeping police riot squad performing missions overseas.
