Several Korean airlines refuse to broadcast Parasite: because the content is not conducive to the image of South Korea

According to South Korean media reports, although the South Korean movie "Parasite" won four awards at the Oscars and sparked heated discussions and a viewing craze, South Korean airlines such as Korean Air and Asiana Airlines have stated that they will not play the film on their planes.

Korean Air’s in-flight movie selection criteria reportedly excludes movies that may cause discomfort to passengers, such as plane crash scenes, movies that belittle a specific country or ethnic group, and movies that may cause political and social controversy. “Parasite” was excluded because it contains content that is not favorable to the image of South Korea, such as the gap between the rich and the poor in South Korea. In addition to Korean Air, “Parasite” is also not available on Asiana Airlines.

The report said that although Asiana Airlines began discussing the screening of "Parasite" on board when it won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2019, it was ultimately not shown due to the presence of restricted scenes.
