The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie reboot is moving forward

Directors Ryan and Andy Tohill may be working on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. The brothers, who previously directed the 2018 horror short The Dig, will be filming from a script written by Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues, whose screenplay credits include the 2013 Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe.

In a press statement, Alvarez expressed his expectations for the Tohill brothers’ directorial efforts. “The Tohill brothers’ vision is exactly what fans want to see. It’s violent, exciting, despicable, and you’ll never forget it.”

According to multiple reports, Legendary Pictures purchased the rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in the fall of 2019, with Alvarez and Sayagues involved in Legendary's production through their own publishing company, and Chris Thomas Devlin later took on the screenplay.

The last Texas Chainsaw film was 2017's Leatherface, a prequel to the original 1974 film. It premiered on DirecTV and was released in a small release a month later, grossing $1 million worldwide. Some critics consider it the worst Texas Chainsaw film ever.

This reboot of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" will be the ninth film in the series to be released in theaters.
