Is there hope for the film adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem"? Liu Cixin: It will take time

Recently, at the 2019 China Science Fiction Conference, science fiction writer Liu Cixin talked about the film and television adaptation of his masterpiece "The Three-Body Problem". He expressed the hope that it could be successfully adapted into a film and television work, but the process would certainly be complicated and lengthy and would take time.

According to an interview with China News Service, Liu Cixin said, "I still hope that The Three-Body Problem can be successfully adapted into a film and television series," because it will have a great impact on promoting Chinese science fiction films and television. However, Liu Cixin said, "The Three-Body Problem is quite large in size and its content is quite complex, so it will take time."

He cited the world's famous science fiction works "Foundation" series (written by Asimov) and "Rendezvous with Rama" (written by Arthur Clarke) as examples. The film and television adaptation process of these novels spanned decades. "The operation of a big-budget science fiction film is a very complicated process. We should hold a peaceful attitude and wait for it to appear."

As the pinnacle of Chinese science fiction, the film and television adaptation of the "Three-Body" trilogy has always attracted much attention. The filming of the movie version began in 2015 but has been postponed and no news has been heard since then. However, this year, the TV series and animation versions have been approved and launched one after another. A few months ago, the best-selling "Three-Body" novel in Japan also caused heated discussions again.
