Did Sonic the Hedgehog cost $35 million to redesign? Others say it cost only $5 million

Paramount's new live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been criticized for its original image, so Sonic has been completely revised in the live-action movie. Recently, a Twitter user named TRAFON revealed that the revision of Sonic's image in Sonic the Hedgehog cost Paramount $35 million .

TRAFON said on Twitter: " Official data states that it cost $35 million to remake 'Sonic', and the overall cost of the film rose from $90 million to $125 million ." Other foreign media said that the special effects for the trailer alone would cost $2.15 million, the visual effects are expected to cost between $18 million and $31 million , and the overall shooting budget is $90 million.

However, the famous foreign media IndieWire recently updated a report in response to the TRAFON tweet that "the modification of Sonic's image in "Sonic the Hedgehog" cost 35 million US dollars." The report stated, " A source close to the production said the cost of the re-production was around 5 million US dollars ."

Sources say that when the film was delayed and Sonic was redesigned, the visual effects work on the film was far from complete. It was reported that the only fully completed visual effects for the film were seen in the first trailer released on April 30, and most of the special effects were not yet completed, so the cost of redesigning Sonic's image was not as outrageously expensive as others rumored. Sources told IndieWire that any rumors that the redesign of "Sonic" made the visual effects team "miserable" were not true.

The live-action CG movie "Sonic the Hedgehog" will be released in North America on February 14, 2020.
