HBO's The Last of Us live-action series confirms 14-year-old Ellie

The female lead for the HBO live-action series based on Naughty Dog's famous game The Last of Us has been finalized. The 14-year-old Ellie will be played by Bella Ramsay (Game of Thrones), who has been confirmed by Naughty Dog's vice president Neil.

In addition, according to foreign media The Illuminerdi, Mahershala Ali will play the character Joel in the game. However, Mahershala Ali is currently only in the casting range and has not yet been officially confirmed by Naughty Dog. It is reported that the original candidate for the role was Matthew McConaughey, but the latter refused.

Mahershala Ali's film and television appearances include True Detective Season 3, House of Cards, Moonlight, Green Book and the upcoming Marvel reboot Blade.

Chernobyl screenwriter Craig Mazin will work with Naughty Dog Vice President Neil Druckmann to write the script and serve as producer for the live-action drama "The Last of Us". In addition, the producers of "Game of Thrones" and "Chernobyl" will also serve as producers of the series with Naughty Dog President Evan Wells.
