"Stunt Man" had a weak first week at the North American box office and will be released in China on May 17

Today (May 6), the action comedy "The Stunt Man" starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt topped the domestic box office in the United States in its first week of release, with box office revenue of 28.5 million US dollars in the first weekend, lower than the previous official estimate of at least 30 million US dollars.

The global box office of "The Stunt Man" has now reached $65.4 million, which can be said to be a modest start for a movie that cost $130 million to make before the promotional budget is taken into account. Experts analyze that this is a good start for the action comedy type of movie, but it needs good stamina to recoup the entire production cost.

David Leitch's last film, Bullet Train, didn't get off to the best of starts either, but it ultimately grossed $239 million during its theatrical run. But that film had a lower budget -- just $90 million.

The story is adapted from the 1980s TV series of the same name. It tells the story of a stuntman (Gosling) whose career has been over due to a serious accident on the set that almost killed him. He participated in a new movie and reunited with the star (ATJ) he worked with many years ago to be the latter's stand-in. But the problem is-now the leading actor is missing.

Blunt plays a former camera operator who has a romantic relationship with Gosling's stuntman, who is now about to reach the pinnacle of her career - directing a particularly gorgeous sci-fi western, but needs the help of her ex-boyfriend. Xu Weilun plays the assistant of the movie star, Duke plays the stuntman's friend, and Waddingham plays the troubled film producer. "The Stunt Man" will be released in China on May 17.
