Schedule is busy! "Game of Thrones" writing duo withdraws from new "Star Wars" project

After completing the adaptation of the best-selling novel this year, David Benioff and DB Weiss, the famous screenwriters of "Game of Thrones", left HBO and joined Netflix. Just today, they publicly announced that due to the saturation of work within Netflix, they gave up the plan to write the new trilogy of "Star Wars" under Disney, and the sensational "rumor" that circulated in 2018 was thus ended.

Originally, the duo planned to start the "Post-Skywalker Era" for Disney Lucasfilm's flagship IP, launching a new chapter of the rebooted "Star Wars" following the current trilogy around 2022. However, they mentioned their cooperation with Netflix and expressed their passion for "Star Wars". Unfortunately, their schedules are really full.

"We love Star Wars. When George Lucas created it, it influenced both of us. Talking about Star Wars with him and his team is the most unforgettable thing in a lifetime, and we will always be grateful for this legend that changed the world."

While Lucasfilm released the relevant announcement, it also left a little room: "David Benioff and Dan Weiss are outstanding storytellers, and we hope that when they can spare some time from their busy schedules, they can participate in the future journey of Star Wars."

In August this year, DeadLine revealed that the duo's contract with Netflix was worth up to nine figures, so it was reasonable for them to work hard for the latter. In an exclusive report received by DeadLine, the duo admitted: "There are only 24 hours in a day, and we feel that we cannot coordinate and handle Star Wars and our Netflix project fairly, so we can only withdraw with regret."

The Game of Thrones writing duo has been controversial this year. Although the ending of the eighth season left most fans dissatisfied, they still won the Emmy Award. Interestingly, after the news of the two's withdrawal from Star Wars was announced, there were many comments on the Internet that applauded.
