With the global release of Gemini Man, Ang Lee has once again set off a wave of discussions about "high frame rate" movies around the world. Recently, James Cameron, the "God of Cards" who once led the innovation of 3D technology with Avatar, also expressed his views on high frame rate movies and Gemini Man. He made it clear that there will be no high frame rate version of the "Avatar" sequel. In his opinion, high frame rate is a means to solve problems in 3D shooting and presentation, and is not suitable for shooting the entire movie. Cameron said in an interview: "Because I'm filming in New Zealand, I haven't seen the finished film of Gemini Man yet, but I have seen some clips and am very interested in seeing this movie. I have some opinions on high frame rate technology. It can solve certain specific problems of 3D under certain circumstances: for example, when you pan the lens quickly and it shakes. For me, high frame rate is just a solution in this kind of situation. It can't be called a format, nor will it become a big event like 70mm, but obviously Ang Lee doesn't think so. In the sequel to Avatar, I will use this technology sparingly, but the whole movie will not use high frame rate." Then, Cameron gave an example and added: "For me, the more monotonous the theme of the film, such as two people chatting in the kitchen, the worse the effect of the high frame rate. It will make you feel like you are in the kitchen set, with actors in makeup around you. This is its realism, do you understand? But I think that when you shoot a special theme, whether it is a live shot or CG, the surreal feeling brought by the high frame rate will become just right and add the icing on the cake. So for me, the high frame rate is like a magic wand. It will produce magic when you wave it at the right time." According to current plans, "Avatar 2" will be released in North America on December 17, 2021. |
