Yuanshi Tianzun is an important character in the original work of the famous Chinese Ming Dynasty classic fantasy novel "Investiture of the Gods". He is the "Heavenly Saint" of Yuqing and the head of the Chan Sect. In the novel, he is the second disciple of Hongjun Laozu and one of the three ancient friends. He is a fellow disciple of Laozi (Laojun) and Tongtian Jiaozhu.
