Ang Lee's latest sci-fi action movie Gemini Man was recently released in North America. The young Will Smith created by CG motion capture in the movie is unforgettable. So what are some classic CG motion capture characters in the movie? IGN has brought you the top 18 real-life motion capture CG characters in movies. Let's take a look! 18. "Tron" Master Control ProgramThe mastering program for 1982’s Tron was pretty crude by today’s standards, but as the first fully CG character in a film, the diminutive villain has stood the test of time even better than his 2010 sequel, TRON: Legacy. 17. T-1000 from Terminator 2Maybe the T-1000 in "Terminator 2" is not the first CG character in a movie, but even from today's aesthetic point of view, this liquid metal robot villain is quite amazing. 16. Tyrannosaurus Rex from Jurassic ParkBut in Jurassic Park, Spielberg was able to use the magic of CGI to show off his dinosaurs at every opportunity. No dinosaur has captured our imaginations like the gigantic Tyrannosaurus Rex. The T. rex in Jurassic Park remains more appealing than most of the roaring beasts that have lurched along since 1993 (including the T. rex in Jurassic World). 15. Gollum from The Lord of the RingsThe Lord of the Rings series was and still is the benchmark for special effects in movies, and no CG character better showcases the magic of special effects than Gollum. Not only does Gollum fit seamlessly into the setting of Middle-earth, but Andy Serkis' motion capture performance really reveals the conflict between Gollum's good and evil sides. 14. Master Yoda from Star WarsThe Star Wars prequels abandoned the puppetry of the original series when it came to Yoda. While a certain charm was lost in the transition from puppet to full CG character, it did have its advantages. How else could you depict Master Yoda at the peak of his Jedi powers, bouncing around the screen like a hyperactive Bruce Lee? 13. Davy Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean 2Pirates of the Caribbean 2 is a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without an undead pirate villain suffering from a supernatural curse. From a visual point of view, Davy Jones, the captain of the "Flying Dutchman" pirate ship, is still the leader of the film's special effects. Thanks to actor Bill Nighy and the talented CG artists at Industrial Light and Magic. 12. Sandman from Spider-Man 3People don’t have many fond memories of Spider-Man 3, but at least we got to see the villain “Sandman” for the first time in the film. 11. Neytiri from AvatarLike it or not, there’s no denying that James Cameron’s Avatar is one of the most impressive films ever made in terms of cinematic CG. It brought entire alien worlds to life. That includes Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri, one of the most meticulously rendered and expressive CG characters we’ve ever seen. At this point, we’re excited to see how much more Cameron can raise the bar when Avatar 2 hits theaters in late 2021.
