The manga series, written and drawn by 【歹ど死んでいる】, is about "a young man whose uncle wakes up from a 17-year coma, now possessing magical powers and a love of video games. Soon, he discovers two strange things: his uncle treasures video games more than anything else, and while in the coma, he was actually transported to an alternate world and became a hero! Now, not only does he have to live under the same roof with his magical uncle, he also has to bring the guy up to speed on twenty years of history - smartphones, high-speed internet, modern anime tropes... and the traumatic aftermath of the 90s console wars!"

The anime adaptation was first announced in June 2021. The original manga is still going strong, with seven volumes released in February of this year following its release in November 2018. According to Anime News Network, the anime version of "Osaka-san" will feature the opening theme song "Story" by Mayu Maejima and the ending theme song "Ichibanboshi Sonoti" by Yuka Iguchi.
