"John Wick" will be filmed as a spin-off movie "Ballerina" directed by the director of Underworld

According to foreign media reports, Lionsgate has decided to create the action spin-off "Ballerina" of the "John Wick" series, directed by Len Wiseman, the director of the "Underworld" series. The film focuses on a young female killer who wants to avenge her murdered family. Shay Hatten, the screenwriter of "John Wick 3" and Zack Snyder's new Netflix film "Death Team", will write the script for the film, and Keanu Reeves, the male lead of the "John Wick" series, will be one of the executive producers of "Ballerina".

The character of "Ballerina" appears briefly at the beginning of "John Wick 3". It is not clear whether Keanu will join the film, although if he does, it may only be a small cameo. Unity Phelan played "Ballerina" in "John Wick 3", but it is hard to say who will play the heroine in the spin-off.

Lionsgate is currently working on "John Wick 4" and "Ballerina" at the same time. "John Wick 3" has grossed more than $323 million worldwide and is also the best-selling Blu-ray disc film by Lionsgate in the past five years.

The Underworld series that launched Len Wiseman's career is an action movie with women as the protagonists. He also married the heroine Kate Beckinsale (later divorced in 2016).
