"The Wandering Earth" was released overseas, and foreigners complained that the audience was all Chinese. The director responded

Domestic films released during the 2019 Lunar New Year holiday achieved great success in both word-of-mouth and box office. Among them, "The Wandering Earth" won the box office championship as a science fiction film, and in just 6 days, the box office exceeded 2 billion yuan and was heading towards 4 billion yuan.

However, as the movie became popular, it also caused some controversy. Recently, a foreign netizen complained that the audience of "The Wandering Earth" was all Chinese when it was released abroad. Specifically, starting from February 8, "The Wandering Earth" landed in North American theaters, showing in 22 cities in the United States, 3 cities in Canada, and all of Australia. A foreign netizen said: "Except for me, it seems that everyone in the cinema is Chinese."

In response to this, Guo Fan, the director of The Wandering Earth, responded domineeringly in an interview with the Global Times: He did not consider the international market at the beginning, and the North American release was also to cater to the viewing needs of overseas Chinese. "Who cares whether they (foreign audiences) can accept it? I will serve the Chinese audience first."

Currently, on the foreign film rating website IMDb, 2,903 people have rated "The Wandering Earth", and the film's current rating is 8.0, the same as "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", "Terminator 1", and "Rocky 1".

<<:  "The Wandering Earth" earned 1.6 million US dollars in its first week in North America, far exceeding "The Mermaid"

>>:  "The Deer and the Cauldron" will be made into a movie trilogy directed by Hong Kong director Pang Ho-cheung
