According to Time.com, the Chinese sci-fi masterpiece "The Wandering Earth" was released in North American theaters on a small scale on February 8, and the cumulative box office reached 1.6 million US dollars over the weekend, ranking among the top 15 weekend box office. It achieved the best box office for Chinese-language films released in North America in recent years, except for the large-scale release of "The Great Wall".

According to The Hollywood Reporter today, "The Wandering Earth" earned $1.6 million in 65 theaters in 39 cities in North America in its first week. According to the weekend box office statistics of box office tracking website mojo, "The Wandering Earth" ranked 14th on the weekend box office list. "Peppa Pig" distributed by STX was released in 67 theaters in North America, earning $70,000 at the weekend, and the box office per theater was around $1,045.

Compared to the $980,000 box office (35 theaters) of The Mermaid in its first week in North America in 2016, The Wandering Earth earned $600,000 more, creating the best opening score for a Chinese-language film that was released in North America in recent years. The Wandering Earth has an IMDb score of 8 (2,404 people rated it), and Rotten Tomatoes has no score yet.

The Wandering Earth has not yet been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America, so it is difficult to expand the scale of screening in the US market. It is rated PG in Canada (similar to the US) and M in Australia (indicating that this type of film is a "mature" film suitable for relatively mature young audiences). According to foreign media reports, The Wandering Earth performed particularly well on IMAX screens in North America, with 33 IMAX theaters in North America generating $775,000, with an average revenue of $23,500 per theater, also setting a record for similar releases.

"The Wandering Earth" was officially released in mainland China on February 5, the first day of the Chinese New Year. Since the third day of the Chinese New Year, it has topped the box office and screenings, achieving a counterattack and becoming more and more courageous. On the evening of the sixth day of the Chinese New Year, the cumulative box office officially exceeded 2 billion, becoming the biggest winner of this year's Spring Festival.
